Presence of gold in the oral mucosa of wearers of gold alloy prostheses

A research conducted with the use of flameless atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), has demonstrated the presence of gold in small grafts of the oral mucosa of 8 gold alloy protheses wearers and this with statistically significant values. The results appear to be in contrast with the properties of gold. Nonetheless, it appeared to be reasonable to give explanations on these phenomena on the basis of particular chemical, physical and dental characteristics of the mouth, saliva and alloys used.
