In 50 boys and girls, 12 to 15 years old, from a Sardinian village, dietary habits, studied by questionnaire during 7 days, indicated an inadequate intake of legumes, vegetables, fruit, milk, fish and eggs. Intake of meat was adequate. Intake of carbohydrates, lipids and protein and total energy was below recommended values. Growth rate, estimated from weight, height and wrist circumference, was optimum and total and individual blood lipids were within normal limits. Results indicate that the diet is more balanced than in a survey made 5 years earlier and that recommended nutrient values are too high for Sardinians and should be revised.
