Data from the 1991 Encuesta Sociodemografica are used to analyze changes in nuptiality among both men and women in Navarre and the Basque region of Spain. "We have seen how the mean age at marriage for both sexes has decreased, although men still get married at older ages. We have seen how the number of years of education is the major variable determining age at marriage. Regarding the percentage of people who never marry (those who stay single at the age of 50), we have found important differences among the trends observed for men and women. While the former are more likely to remain single, the latter more likely to get married." (EXCERPT)
