A new focus of endemic goitre in Mwezi, Tanzania

Thyroid size was estimated in 373 schoolchildren, 285 Ruandan immigrants and 88 of local tribes, in Mwezi, Tanzania, using the tables of Perez et al. (WHO Monograph Ser., 1960, 44, 369). Local children had higher goitre rates than immigrant children. I in urine and inorganic I in plasma were low in nearly all children, indicating I deficiency.
