Bacterial cultures (50) were isolated from a variety of technical oils stored for different periods of time under varying climatic conditions; of these, 20 actively degraded technical oils. The bacteria were identified as Bacillus spp. (B. subtilis, B. pumilus, B. licheniformis, B. cereus, B. alvei). The susceptibility of the oils to bacterial degradation was shown to depend on their hydrocarbon composition. Oils MK8 + 10% Akor 1, AS-8, MS-8p, MN7-5U, and IMP-10 were the least resistant to bacterial degradation. B. subtilis (strs. 7 and 10) and B. pumilis (str. 13) isolated from oils MK8 + 10% Akor 1, MT-16p and AMG-10 were the most active bacteria and are recommended as test cultures for determining the resistance of technical oils to bacterial degradation.
