Morphometrical relationships between vasculature and development of experimental lung granulomas

Relationships between vasculature and development of experimental lung granulomas were quantitatively estimated and statistically processed using the linear regression method. The obtained results showed that the ratio beween the surface of all the vessels of a granuloma section and that of the histological section suffered a decrease up to the 15th day of the granuloma formation and then it gradually increased up to the 75th day of the reaction when the ratio became equal to that of controls and reflected the reopening of closed vessels and/or the appearance of new ones. The morphometrical data also showed a good correlation between the increase of vessel diameters and that of the elastic apparatus of vessels, both phenomena being common during the chronic evolution of experimental lung granulomas.
