Partial red cell bone marrow aplasia (PRCBMA) was induced in rabbits by repeated injections of immune complexes: soluble antigen of erythrokaryocytes of rabbit bone marrow with antibodies against interspecific antigen of mammal red cells (IAMRC) from blood serum of a patient with PRCBMA. The rabbits either died from PRCBMA with antibodies against IAMRC, or recovered completely due to effective triggering of autogenous antiidiotypic immune mechanism inhibiting selectively this autoimmune reaction. To induce PRCBMA in BALB/c and AKR mice repeated injections of immune complexes IAMRC-anti-IAMRC obtained from mouse, rabbit and human materials were used. Most of the immunized BALB/c mice developed Rauscher's erythroleukemia. In AKR mice autoimmune reaction against IAMRC was rapidly depressed by antiidiotypic antibodies which prevents the development in them of PRCBMA and leukemia. Pathogenetic relationship between PRCBMA and erythroleukemia and defensive antileukemic function of antiidiotypic antibodies is discussed.
