Edwardsiella tarda infection in Hat Yai Hospital

There were 23 patients with Edwardsiella tarda infection during the period April 1980 to October 1981. Only 11 cases had inpatient medical records available for analysis. Eight cases were children under 5 years of age and presented as gastroenteritis. Three patients were adults. Two of these had bacteremia. One of the bacteremic patients probably had cholecystitis. The third adult had colitis. Most of the gastroenteritis patients responded to supportive treatment. The severity of extraintestinal infection was probably related to underlying disease.
