Heinz's body formation test on nitroglycerin treated blood

In blood samples taken from healthy adult, which were treated by 50 .mu.g nitroglycerin/ml blood and incubated for 4 hours (GTN treated blood), there was no appearance of Heinz's body. But the percentage of RBC having Heinz's body was significantly higher in GTN treated blood than the untreated blood by Heinz's body formation test. From this fact, it is speculated that GTN might damage RBC. There was no significant difference in Heinz's body appearance between the blood treated by water-GTN solution and the one by alcohol-GTN solution.
