The focal application of 70% Bayluscide wettable powder in various water contact sites in larger canals and lakes in Mali was evaluated. The exact distribution of Biomphalaria pfeifferi and Bulinus truncatus at the sites was carefully determined. Where snails were found in marginal vegetation, 2-3 ppm Bayluscide was applied along the shore from 10 to 40 m upstream from the water contact sites to 10 m downstream. Where snails were found in low submerged vegetation, Bayluscide was applied at 2 to 4 g (a.i.)/msuperscript 2 directly between the plants. It is concluded that such applications can be quite efficient but the method requires careful surveillance for snails and supervision of mollusciciding. Time spacing between applications should probably be 4 to 6 weeks. Problems with changing water levels are discussed. Fish (Tilapia and catfish) were killed by the molluscicide, but the effects on fish production are considered minimal.
