The nature of hyaline globules in adenocarcinoma of the lung

Hyaline globules (HG) which were found intra- and extracellularly in three cases of adenocarcinoma of the lung were examined by different histochemical procedures, as well as by autofluorescence and PAP stain for keratin. The globules stained with variable intensity by methods for proteins, RNA and keratin. They occasionally contained nulcear remnants and products of peroxidation of membranes. As a result of our investigation, we conclude that the HG's are apoptotic cells or alternatively apoptotic bodies engulfed by sister cells.
