This article gives an overview of the current nutritional state in India. The article includes a description of the population at risk, proportion of total recommended dietary allowances consumed, and other nutritional problems in the country. The improvements in nutrition quality since the introduction of different nutrition intervention programmes, are also mentioned. The findings are based on the National Family Health Survey of 1998-99 and Diet and Nutritional Status of Rural Population 2001 of the National Nutrition Monitoring Bureau.
