The authors describe mechanisms by which helminths and protozoans may damage tissues, and the host response. The disease which results from the host-parasite interaction, although never beneficial, is often mild and of little concern pathologically. However, serious disease may develop and lead to a variety of local and secondary lesions which contribute to ill health and may lead to death.
