In patients with croupous and focal pneumonias were subjected to comprehensive examination. All patients presented mild neurological disorders manifested as headache, photophobia, general hypesthesia and slight functional changes in the vegetative nervous system. Neuropsychic complications in the form of encephalopathy, as well as asthenic, meningeal and convulsive syndromes were observed in 6-8% of patients with acute pneumonias. Hypoxia and toxicosis were responsible for lesions to the nervous system. Premorbid personality characteristics play a great role in the formation of the asthenic syndrome. There was a definite correlation between the underlying disease, neurologic disorders and external respiration function and the acid-base equilibrium. It is recommended that anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory and desensitizing therapy be combined with roborant and sedative drugs. The prognosis was determined by the severity and localization of the underlying disease and on the whole, provided the timely initiation of an active multiple modality therapy, was relatively favourable.
