Urinary K concentration and specific gravity were stable throughout the menstrual cycle but urinary Na and Cl concentration were low in menstrual period and follicular phase and high in the ovulatory phase and luteal phase. As compared with the urinary Na/K ratio of those who had premenstrual and menstrual symptoms before and during menstruation or only during menstruation, and of the students who had premenstrual symptoms only before menstruation, the latter were low. Premenstrual and menstrual symptoms were observed in 98.1% of 108 students; 13.0% suffered from the symptoms at every menstruation and 18.5% suffered occasionally. One should consider the necessity of decreasing premenstrual edema.
