Issues against and for providing human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) treatment (in addition to HIV prevention efforts) in the Developing Countries, in an effort to control the HIV epidemic worldwide, are addressed. It is feared that the HIV epidemic may lead to international instability. Objections to providing treatment in the developing world include the prohibitive cost of treatment, conflict with other health emergencies, lack of adequate training and infrastructure, complexity of HIV treatment modalities, the need for more research, and the risk for widespread diffusion of drug resistant disease.
