Arterial hypertension in patients with venous lienorenal anastomoses

Study of the late results after splenorenal venous anastomosis was made in the syndrome of portal hypertension provided information on the development of arterial hypertension in 16 out of 18 examined patients. None of the patients suffered from high arterial pressure before the operation. Renal function, concentration of aldosterone and cortisol, plasma renin activity and central hemodynamics were thoroughly studied by means of integral body rheography. It has been concluded that performance of proximal venous splenorenal anastomosis is followed by hemodynamic abnormalities in the venous outflow from the kidney that resulted in development of arterial hypertension by the vasorenal type.
