The importance of agroindustries in the development of rural areas is widely recognised. The main agroindustrial crops of Budaun District, Uttar Pradesh, are oilseeds, pulses, sugarcane, potato and mentha on which the existing agroindustrial units of the district are based. Onion, opium, chilli, cotton and tobacco are also grown. The paper describes the current status of these crops, their future potential, and the prospects for agroindustrial development. Existing units number 107 and provide employment for 3398 people. Based on the district's large agricultural resources, great potential exists for future agro-industrial expansion.
