The behavior of the 3-acetylcarbostyril derivative 1 [3-acetyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2,4-dioxo-1-phenyl-quinoline], towards the Mannich reaction and the reactivity of the products formed in their reactions with aniline, phenylhydrazine and benzenesulfonyl chloride, were studied. The reaction of 1 with thioglycolic acid was also investigated. [4-Hydroxycarbostyrils and their derivatives have acquired practical value as they possess chemotherapeutic activities.].
