Despite the evidence that HIV can be transmitted by breastfeeding, there is much that we need to know about factors that affect the rate of transmission, and about the risks and feasibility of replacement feeding, before adequate information can be provided to affected families to enable them to make the most appropriate decision about feeding their infants.
