A male Amazona ochrocephala, seen at an animal clinic in the USA with a 2-week history of weight loss, diarrhoea, decreased appetite and respiratory distress, died 4 days later. At necropsy, numerous spores of Encephalitozoon were seen in the renal tubules, lungs and intestinal mucosa. Histologically the kidneys were congested and there were multiple areas of tubular degeneration. Findings in the lungs consisted primarily of severely congested blood vessels and focal areas of necrosis, with infiltration of heterophils and mononuclear cells in some areas. The hepatic parenchyma was severely congested.
