Rural health training programme: the experience of the School of Medicine, Ahfad University for Women

An exploration is presented of the education objectives, organization and activities implemented in the Rural Health Training Programme (RHTP) which is held yearly by the medical students in School of Medicine, Ahfad University for Women, Sudan. The constraints encountered and efficiency of the assessment methods used are included. The objectives of the RHTP were centred around the following domains: health education, community-based research, endemic diseases, health care delivery system, development of community health projects. The organizational steps and activities developed to achieve the objectives were reviewed. Activities were implemented at three community settings: community, school and health facility. The adequacy of assessment methods used to evaluate the performance of the students are described. Constraints encountered during the implementation process are mentioned.
