This paper discusses the role of women in Africa in food production and maintaining food security for their families. It is suggested that women in developing countries play a vital role in providing food and nutritional needs of their family. However, several cultural, traditional and economic policies create a barrier for women to effectively and efficiently meet the food production and nutritional needs of their families. It is recommended that granting women access to credit, land equipment and resources which are easily accessible to men in African society can improve food production and nutrition requirements. Also, to overcome the barriers against women, African societies should change their attitudes toward women and create a supportive environment to help them participate effectively in the society with dignity.
