Cell mediated immune response against purified glomerular basement membrane antigen in glomerulonephritis

Cell mediated immune response to purified glomerular basement membrane (GBM) antigen was studied in 33 biopsy proved patients of glomerulonephritis (minimal change lesions in 8, mesengioproliferative 3, membranoproliferative 11, and membranous 11) and 12 matched controls. Of them 25 (75.7%) demonstrated positive leucocyte migration inhibition (LMI) against GBM-I antigen whereas 31 (93.6%) showed positive LMI against GBM-D antigen. The LMI values ranged from 3 to 36 per cent in patients and 3 to 18 per cent in control group against GBM-I antigen, whereas against GBM-D antigen, these values were 3 to 85 per cent and 9 to 22 per cent in patients and controls respectively. The LMI test against GBM-I antigen was positive in 25 per cent patients of minimal change, 90 per cent patients of membranous or membranoproliferative and in all the patients of mesengioproliferative glomerulonephritis. While the LMI test against GBM-D antigen was positive in 90 per cent patients of membranous or membranoproliferative and in all patients of minimal change or mesengioproliferative glomerulonephritis.
