The course of healing of the inflammatory granuloma in rats after the application of tetrachlormethane and 6-azauridine

An inhibitory effect of CCl4 and 6-AzUR was observed on the glycoproteins biosynthesis in the rat liver during the healing of the granulation tissue, induced by implanting polyurethane sponge under the skin. Experiments lasted one, two and three weeks. The amounts of total proteins, sialic acid, uronic acids and hydroxyproline formed in the granuloma was followed. After the action of CCL4 as well as of 6-AzUR, there was a decrease of the insoluble forms of collagen in the granuloma tissue. The biosynthesis of uronic acids present in proteoglycanes was suppressed most remarkably by 6-AzUR. As to the CCl4 we believe that it caused a damage to hepatocytes with decreasing glycoprotein biosynthesis originating in these cells. The action of 6-AzUR may be explained by an interference with the production of UDP-saccharides.
