Endoscopic treatment of stomal stenosis after choledochoduodenostomy: preliminary report

Choledochoduodenostomy (CD) was first described > 90 yr ago and has many recent advocates. Results are usually good but problems may occur after accumulation of debris in the distal bile duct (sump syndrome) or with stenosis of the CD stoma. Sump syndrome can be treated by endoscopic sphincterotomy at the papilla of Vater but, until now, stomal stenosis has required surgical revision. Four patients are described in whom the stenosis was relieved by duodenoscopic diathermy incision.
