Methionine synthase reaction may be coupled with thymidylate synthase-catalyzed tritium release from [5-3H]dUMP via non-enzymatic reaction of formaldehyde with tetrahydrofolate. A convenient and sensitive assay of methionine synthase activity, based on this principle, is described.
