In the 3 parts of nucleus gracilis of dog (rostral, middle and caudal) the occurrence of different types of synaptic vesicles was described and statistically significant difference in their presence was detected employing a quantitative method. Osmificated material was used in the experiment. EM and quantitative analysis of the synapses of nucleus gracilis of dog showed that spherical and cylindrical vesicles occurred most frequently and the least frequent were dense core vesicles. Statistical analysis showed the study of cylindrical and spherical vesicles does not require any nucleus differentiation. If the dense core vesicles are observed the nucleus has to be divided in 2 parts, rostral, where the majority of these vesicles is present, and middle and caudal; there is no statistically significant difference between the latter 2 compartments. In nucleus gracilis there were 46.7% synapses with spherical vesicles, 30% synapses with spherical, dense core vesicles, 10.7% synapses with cylindrical and spherical vesicles, 5.3% synapses with cylindrical vesicles, 5.3% synapses with spherial, cylindrical and dense core vesicles and 2% synapses with dense core and cylindrical vesicles.
