Two patients are described in whom pancreatic abscesses developed. In the first case in a 71-year-old patient the abscess developed due to chronic cholecystolithiasis and resulting acute pancreatitis. In the second case no unequivocal cause of acute pancreatitis was demonstrated. Both cases were treated surgically evacuating the contents of the abscess cavity and necrotic pancreatic tissue, with external drainage of the abscess. In both cases the postoperative course was complicated with suppuration of the wound and appearance of external and internal fistulae. In the first case the fistulae healed spontaneously, in the second case they were closed surgically. In both cases complete recovery followed.
