Studies were made of the EEG and clinical pattern produced by parenteral isoniazid (INH) in rats. Forty rats were i.p. injected with INH (250 to 600 mg/kg) increasing by steps of 50 mg/kg. Other 25 rats were injected with INH at the dose of 350 mg/kg. This dose proved to be most steadily convulsant without major side effects. The skull EEG recording and the behavior of each rat were followed-up to 90 min after INH. This is a reliable model for pharmacological studies in rats, particularly when GABA metabolism is involved.
