Modification of the McIndoe neovaginoplasty technic. Experience in 20 cases

The authors present two modifications of the McIndoe's technique of vaginal reconstruction after having used it on 90 patients. The modifications were: 1) the application of an inlay graft using a metal tube similar to a rectoscope and removing the latter after packing the lumen with vaseline gauze; 2) removal of total thickness skin graft 12X6 cm from both inguinal regions while the margins are sutured so that a well-placed linear scar results. These modifications were applied on 20 cases, all with good anatomic results. Seven had already initiated satisfactory sexual activity. Two patients with congenital vaginal agenesis but with functioning uterus, began menstruating through the new vagina and are capable of becoming pregnant.
