Half of 90 donkeys on three Greek islands received anthelmintic in early March, followed by two further doses at 4-week intervals. The anthelmintics were pyrantel and fendabendazole given alternatively. Faecal egg counts were greatly reduced for the rest of the grazing season, and body condition was improved by 14.4%. In October total faecal worm counts during 72 hours after a dose of pyrantel revealed a 92% reduction in worm burdens. The worms were identified as belonging to the genera Cylicocylus, Cyathostomum, Cylicostephanus, Probstmayria and Oxyuris.
