Document Number: 254512
The April 11-13, 1979 dialogue on "Communication education/training needs in Africa", convened by the Executive Committee of the African Council on Communication Education (ACCE), sharply defined a number of African communication priorities and needs, which challenge the USA and other western nations to provide a coordinated response to the major changes in the field of co-operative communications assistance to meet African development objectives. This report contains a condensed version of the April dialogue, and serves as a useful summary in evaluating and addressing the objectives and priorities of ACCE. ACCE's main priority is the establishment of a Secretariat, which will give full attention to the promotion of its goals. Additional priorities include training of trainers, preparation of teaching materials, courses for media professionals, women and the media, exchanges of staff and students, communication needs of non-elite groups, and the establishment of a communication research, information and documentation network.
