This article provides an overview of the worldwide epidemic of acquired immune deficiency syndrome, and discusses the impact of this epidemic on occupational health in developed and developing countries, with focus on the health care setting, the general workplace, and agricultural and business sectors. Actions taken by employers and governments on this global epidemic are also discussed.
