The quantitative differences of melanin were established during the various stages of the atypical moulting process occurring in the fur of the volcano rabbit. The intensity of the color of the fur of the rabbits studied had a direct relation with its melanin content. Furs with temporary moles had a higher amount of melanoid than the normal ones, and these, in turn, contained more than alopecic furs.
