The redox potential is a measure of the oxidizing and germicidal effect of the disinfectant with regard to the impurities of the bath-water. Compared with the determination of the concentration of chlorine, the measurement of the redox potential does not only allow assessing the disinfecting power of the bath-water but the quality of water treatment. Thus the redox potential is an essential criterion for the assessment of the hygienic quality of the bath-water on the spot. Measuring equipment for non-continuous and continuous measurement of the redox potential is described, and results from measurement series are discussed. Indoor swimming-baths should generally be equipped with measurement facilities for the determination of the redox potential.
