Nephrectomy by transperitoneal approach without peritonization of the operative site

The authors assessed clinically 79 patients including 44 cases of renal cancer, 7 of renal trauma, 7 of pyonephros, 15 of nephrolithiasis with hydronephros, 5 with hydronephros, 1 with renal artery embolus. In all cases laparotomy was done for nephrectomy and the site of the operation was left without covering it with the sutured parietal peritoneum. In all cases the postoperative course was uneventful. In the light of this material it should be accepted that suturing of the peritoneum to cover its defect after nephrectomy is not indispensable. No early and late complications were observed in this material.
