A study of Salmonella contamination in some Dublin poultry processing plants

A survey of four poultry processing plants during the period from November 1968 to January 1969 revealed that 15.1% of poultry carcasses were contaminated with Salmonella bredeney, S. tennessee or S. typhimurium. A total of 471 samples were collected during processing of 11 different hen or broiler crops and salmonella organisms were isolated from 102 of the samples. The highest percentage (31.0) of isolations was made from viscera.
