Acute hepatitis in infectious mononucleosis

EBV infection was confirmed in 30 patients. The patients were treated at the Ward for Infectious Diseases at Kragujevac [Yogoslavia]. Before hospitalization the patients were treated in Kragujevac out-patients' service. The average duration of treatment in these services was 8.6 days. EBV infection was manifested as s syndrome of infectious mononucleosis. Three patients manifested lung changes atypical for pneumonia. One patient had transitory thrombocytopenia. Viral hepatitis was confirmed in all patients. Only one patient had a mild icteric form of hepatitits. The others (29 or 96.7%) had a mild anicteric form of hepatitis. Serum transaminase was slightly increased. Floculation tests were normal in 50 per cent of patients. The issue of the primary disease and viral hepatitits was favourable. Such findings in viral hepatitis can be found in patients with transfusional Non-a, Non-b (NANB) viral hepatitis.
