In Kochi City, Japan, the pleural effusion of a 70-year-old male showed an infection of Trichomonas tenax (> 30 flagellates found) concomitant with Escherichia coli, the symptoms being haemoptysis, shortness of breath, wheezing, fever and severe chest pain.
