The clinical and esophagomanometric features of the syndrome of esophageal hyperperistalsis characterized by retrosternal pain, increased amplitude and duration of peristaltic contractions in the distal part of the esophagus have been studied in 23 patients. A ten-day course of treatment with calcium antagonist corinfar (nifedipin) in a daily dose of 40 mg produced a direct favourable effect established according to the clinical and esophagomanometric criteria.
