The i/p LD50 of lobeline sulphate following SKF 525-A (75 mg/kg), phenobarbital, and 3-methylcholanthrene was 18.3, 85.5 and 82.1 mg/kg, respectively, compared to 55.3 mg/kg in saline treated controls. Pretreatment of mice with disulfiram, diethylmaleate, or ethoxyquin hydrochloride exhibited a very slight effect on the toxicity of lobeline sulphate. These results suggest that the hepatic microsomal monooxygenase system, but not glutathione, is involved in the detoxication of lobeline sulphate.
