Different clinical types of diabetes are discussed including tropical diabetes in Africa. The physiopathology of the condition and a nutritional hypothesis of possible contributing factors to its prevalence are presented. The disease occurs in patients with normal or below-normal weight; it is not very ketogenic and seems to be more frequent in areas of chronic malnutrition.
