This article discusses the 4 proximate determinants (i.e., marriage patterns, breast feeding, postpartum sexual abstinence and disease-related infertility) responsible for the predecline rise in fertility among muslims in Israel, and describes the fertility trends of this population. The causes of the decline in breast feeding are also discussed.
