More than 200,000 players are participating in league-soccer organized by the Norwegian Football Association. These players are all covered by compulsory insurance. Based on the insurance company's injury form 3187 reports are analysed for injury frequency, localisation, types, treatment, variations during the season, during the matches, between age groups, between sexes, between player positions, between games and practice. The survey shows that during the period 1978-80 there were 3.6 injuries pr. 1000 hours of play. The injuries led to 98,018 days lost from work and a total cost of more than 20 million Norwegian kroner.
