Primary yolk-sac tumor of the mediastinum is rare. It carries a poor prognosis and most patients die within a year of diagnosis; only a few long-term survivors have been described (1-6). The 80% cure rate in primary gonadal, germ cell tumors suggests that optimal treatment of this tumor when located in the mediastinum, should include cis-platinum-based chemotherapy, local radiotherapy and surgery. A 24-year-old man with unresectable primary yolk-sac tumor of the mediastinum was treated with cis-platinum, Bleomycin and Vinblastine, followed by local irradiation. Complete remission that has continued for more than 27 months was achieved.
