Other parasitic diseases found in patients with visceral leishmaniasis

Between November 1980 and November 1983, 124 patients with visceral leishmaniasis were examined for coincident parasitic infections. 108 of them came from areas endemic for schistosomiasis mansoni and malaria. None of the patients with visceral leishmaniasis were found with schistosomiasis or malaria. Out of 69 patients with splenomegaly without visceral leismaniasis from the same areas, 24 (35%) had schistosomiasis, 17 (25%) had malaria, 9(13%) had hookworm and none seemed to have both schistosomiasis and hookworm.
