Multiple embryo-transplant offspring produced from quartering a bovine embryo at the morula stage

A 7-yr-old Chiana cow was treated with FSH plus PGF2 alpha , and was inseminated 3 times with Chiana semen 12, 24 and 36 h after the onset of the induced oestrus. Six days after the onset of oestrus, 4 unfertilized ova and 2 morulae were recovered. One of the morulae was divided into 4 quarter-embryos, each of which was placed in a 0.25-ml French straw and transferred non-surgically to a crossbred recipient. The remaining morula was transferred intact to 1 recipient. Of the 4 recipients of a quarter-embryo, 2 produced a live calf, each within 24 h of the other. The intact embryo did not develop to term.
