Induction of enzymes by interferon

Data are summarized on the action of interferon at molecular level. Enzymic chains induced in the cell by interferon are briefly analysed, including the chains of protein kinase, 2-5A-synthetase and 2'-phosphodiesterase. Reference is made also to inhibiting enzymes which act on those chains as well as to the mechanism of discrimination between inhibition of protein synthesis of virus proteins and of proteins of the host cell. The possible use of substance 2-5A instead of specific interferon cannot be ruled out for the future for diagnosis and therapy in veterinary medicine.
