Chemical composition and biological activity of a molecular substance stimulating antibody production (SAP) in the productive phase of immune response were studied. SAP is a mediator of immune responses isolated from the supernatant of bone marrow cell cultures. SAP stimulates the proliferation of stem hemopoietic cells in the spleen and possesses an analgesic property. No species-specifity was observed in myelopeptides. The endorphinlike and immunoregulatory properties detected in myelopeptides suggest that they may participate in the information transmission from the immune system to the nerve cells.
